Coupe du monde 2026 : Gianni Infantino confirme la présence de l’Iran
Team Melli's arrival in North America has been officially confirmed.
Speaking at an economic conference organized by CNBC in Washington, DC, the leader dispelled any remaining doubts:
“Iran will come, that’s for sure. We hope that by the start of the competition on June 11, the situation will be calmer, which would be beneficial for everyone. Iran must be present: they represent their people, they have qualified and the players want to play,” he said.
Despite a relative easing of tensions in recent weeks, relations between Iran and the United States remain sensitive, particularly under the presidency of Donald Trump. The head of world football prefers to downplay this situation, calling for unity.
"Sport must stay out of politics. We live on Earth, not on the Moon, but if no one builds bridges, then it's up to us to do it," he added.
As a reminder, Iran will play all of its group matches on American soil. Team Melli will face New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 16, then Belgium on June 21 in the same city, before concluding against Egypt in Seattle on June 27.
