Coupe du monde 2026 : la FIFA envisage d’assouplir la règle des cartons jaunes
With the 2026 World Cup approaching, FIFA is considering changes to the regulations concerning yellow cards. The aim is to limit player suspensions during crucial matches.
Currently, the regulations stipulate that cautions are reset after the quarter-finals. But world football's governing body is considering going further by also clearing yellow cards at the end of the group stage. This double reset would reduce the risk of suspension in the knockout stages.
According to The Athletic, this change is expected to be ratified this Tuesday at the FIFA Council meeting in Vancouver. As a reminder, a player is suspended for one match after receiving two yellow cards in the competition, until the accumulation has been reset.
With this reform, FIFA intends to significantly reduce the number of players deprived of major matches due to suspension.
