Coupe du monde 2026 : Le Brésil renverse le Japon dans la douleur
Brazil will indeed be present in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. The Seleção eliminated Japan (2-1) at the end of a particularly hard-fought match.
Vinicius Jr.'s teammates struggled for much of the match against a well-organized and highly disciplined Japanese side. The Blue Samurai opened the scoring through Sano, who unleashed a superb strike that gave the Brazilian goalkeeper no chance (29th minute). At halftime, Japan deservedly held the lead.
Upon returning from the locker room, Brazil reacted quickly. Casemiro leveled the score by heading in a cross from Gabriel in the 56th minute.
Dominant throughout the second half, the Brazilians created numerous opportunities, but were thwarted by a heroic Japanese defense.
It wasn't until stoppage time that the Seleção finally made the difference. Perfectly set up by Bruno Guimarães, Gabriel Martinelli beat the Japanese goalkeeper with a curling shot (90+5).
Thanks to this goal scored in the final seconds, Brazil won 2-1 and secured their place in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
