Dakar : liesse populaire aux HLM Grand Yoff et au CICES après la victoire des Lions face à l’Égypte
A popular jubilation took hold on Wednesday evening in the streets of HLM Grand Yoff and CICES Foire, two districts of Dakar, after the victory of the Lions (1-0) against Egypt in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
As soon as the final whistle blew, hundreds of supporters poured into the main streets, waving flags and honking their horns from cars and motorcycles, in a festive atmosphere marked by songs, dances and slogans in praise of the national team.
"Go Nianthio, Nianthio... thank you Sadio! and Senegal," chanted supporters made up of men, women and children of all ages, running on the road, in homage to Sadio Mané, who scored the only goal of the match in the seventy-eighth minute of play.
In HLM Grand Yoff, the euphoria was palpable, with young people and families gathered until late into the night to celebrate this qualification for the final.
Similar scenes were observed at CICES Fair, where traffic was momentarily slowed by gatherings of supporters.
Several of them came from the fan zone set up inside the Dakar International Fair, as part of the activities that ended last weekend.
For many fans encountered on site, this victory against Egypt, Senegal's historic rival, symbolizes the determination and maturity of a group resolutely focused on a new continental title.
The Lions will therefore play in the AFCON final next Sunday, already generating immense hope and strong popular mobilization across the country.
