Fines… and the violence continues. Yet, the Disciplinary Code of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) is unambiguous. Articles 12 and 30 authorize the deduction of points in the event of serious incidents. A sanction that could finally bring about change.

Article 12: "Points deduction."

Article 30 : "A club may have the number of points obtained in the current championship or in a future championship reduced." Yet, the Senegalese Professional Football League (LSFP) almost always limits itself to the same symbolic measures: fines and matches behind closed doors. As a result, the problems are repeated, season after season. It's time to ask ourselves: why not apply the most dissuasive sanctions, those that directly affect the clubs in the standings?

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, the clash between US Ouakam and AS Jaraaf at the Ngor stadium descended into chaos. What was supposed to be one of the highlights of this second matchday of Ligue 1 turned into a scene of desolation. Projectiles were thrown, play was interrupted, and tear gas was used… the evening was a nightmare for the players, journalists, and fans. Despite Ouakam's 1-0 victory, snatched in the final seconds thanks to a last-gasp goal from Djiby Ndoye in the 93rd minute, the real drama unfolded off the pitch.

The stadium, far too small to accommodate the crowd that had come to watch this capital derby, was overflowing. Some spectators remained outside, while others crowded onto the surrounding walls and terraces. Despite the visible presence of law enforcement, the security measures quickly proved overwhelmed. The first incident erupted at the end of the first half, after a goal was disallowed for US Ouakam due to offside. Furious, some home supporters threw projectiles at the assistant referee. The match was interrupted once, then twice more, before finally resuming with difficulty.

At the final whistle, the worst happened. As the Ouakam players celebrated their victory, supporters invaded the pitch. In a matter of seconds, the atmosphere shifted dramatically: celebrations turned into provocation, confusion ensued, and the police responded with tear gas. Journalists and supporters, trapped in the stands, suffered the same fate. Some remained stuck in the stadium for more than two hours, enveloped in a cloud of gas and panic.

These sadly familiar scenes serve as a stark reminder that the LSFP (Senegalese Professional Football League) must revise its disciplinary policy. Financial penalties and matches played behind closed doors are no longer effective. It's time for a zero-tolerance approach: point deductions, suspensions, and even temporary exclusion from competitions for repeat offenders. The rules are in place; they just need to be enforced. Senegalese football deserves better than weekends of fear and tear gas.

To restore the credibility of the championship, the League must act firmly and courageously. The fans want good football, not chaos.
