Délocalisation des matches de la Gambie à Dakar : Les précisions de la Fédération gambienne de football
In response to the invitation extended to it by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Senegal, asking Gambia to use Senegalese sports infrastructure to host its international opponents, given that Banjul does not have sports infrastructure that meets CAF and FIFA standards, the Gambian Football Federation (GFF) wanted to set the record straight.
Indeed, the remarks made by Minister Khady Diène Gaye on the sidelines of the 8th AIPS/Africa Congress in Banjul on February 6th prompted a reaction from the president of GFF. Lamin Kaba Bajo accepted Senegal's invitation to relocate the Scorpions' matches to either the Léopold Senghor Stadium or the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium.
“It wasn’t easy with our stadium not being approved. I don’t want to go back over what happened before. Before going to Morocco, we knew we had to knock on Senegal’s door first. And we did it more than three times,” he said on the eve of the friendly match between the Lions and the Scorpions.
The president of the GFF also emphasized that his country has "long wanted to host its opponents in Senegal." "The Gambian government always asks us to choose Senegalese sports facilities to host our opponents. Unfortunately, this has never come to fruition. Things haven't gone smoothly. If it were up to us, Gambia would host its opponents in Senegal," Lamin Kaba Bajo stated.
Welcoming the "partnership and solidarity of the State of Senegal for the promotion of sport", the head of Gambian football reiterated his country's friendship towards Senegal.
