"The Moroccans should now be trembling with anxiety and fear," he wrote, highlighting the brilliant form of a Nigerian team that is finding its rhythm, creating chances with ease, and improving match after match.
For the former striker, who scored twice in the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations final against Algeria (3-0), Wednesday's semi-final is already on his mind. "I'm already playing this match in my head," he confides. Aware of the challenge, Odegbami acknowledges that Morocco will be "a tougher mountain to climb," particularly because of the massive popular support the Atlas Lions will enjoy. In front of more than 60,000 fans firmly behind them, the Moroccans will have a true "12th man."
But despite this anticipated hostile environment, the former Nigerian international remains convinced that the Super Eagles have the necessary resources to turn things around. "These Eagles are ready and determined. They will achieve the impossible and successfully fly over the Atlas Mountains," he promises, in a message full of optimism.
Odegbami's comments come after what is considered Nigeria's most accomplished performance since the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Facing a solid Algerian side, unbeaten in their previous four matches, the Super Eagles delivered a display of great maturity, characterized by control, intensity, and clinical finishing. Victor Osimhen opened the scoring early in the second half before turning provider for Akor Adams, who scored the second goal.
Buoyed by this impressive display of strength, Nigeria faces Morocco with ambition and confidence. It remains to be seen whether Segun Odegbami's words will translate into action on the pitch.
