Demi-finales Coupe du Sénégal : L’Université de Saint-Louis crée l’exploit et se qualifie en finale
The University Sporting Club of Saint-Louis caused a sensation. In the semi-finals of the Senegalese Cup, the Saint-Louis students eliminated Casa Sports (1-0).
In a packed Mawade Wade stadium, both teams started the match with determination. Pape Sémou Sané of Casa Sports fired the first shot (8th minute), but the Étudiants' goalkeeper was alert. Two minutes later, Ansumana Samura, number 10 for Casa Sports, narrowly missed the target with a fine left-footed strike. The semi-final was underway.
Casa, through possession-based play, tried to impose their rhythm, but the Students resisted aggressively. In the 24th minute, Landing Diatta thought he had opened the scoring for Ziguinchor, but his header struck the post of Saint-Louis goalkeeper Samba Sangaré.
The Students respond, but Mame Ousmane Noreyni Tall's goal is disallowed for an offside position (34th).
In the second half, the 22 players returned to the pitch with the same attacking intentions. University Sporting Club captain Massamba Diop narrowly missed the target with a well-struck free kick from his left foot (55th minute).
Urged on by a large crowd, Université Sporting Club finally found the breakthrough. In the 85th minute, from a well-taken corner by Ndiogou Diop, Massamba Diop powerfully headed past Moustapha Diatta, the Casa Sports goalkeeper.
Having knocked out Génération Foot, the title holder, and then US Gorée, USC eliminated another Ligue 1 team and qualified for a historic final.
In the final, the Students of Saint-Louis will face Diambars FC of Saly.
