Severely burned in the fire that ravaged a bar in Crans-Montana on the night of December 31 to January 1, Tahirys Dos Santos rescued his girlfriend Coline, trapped inside the building, at the risk of losing her life.
The circumstances surrounding the tragedy that claimed 40 lives and injured 119, according to the latest count, are beginning to become clearer. Tahirys Dos Santos, still being treated in a German hospital after suffering second-degree burns in the fire that broke out in Crans-Montana on the morning of January 1st, was injured while rescuing his partner, Coline L., who was still trapped in the flames after he had already managed to escape the bar-nightclub.
This information was revealed by his agent, Christophe Hutteau, in an interview with BFM TV on Saturday. "Tahirys was on the first floor of the bar when the fire broke out," he confirmed. "He managed to escape the blaze and realized his girlfriend was still inside. He went back in to rescue her from the flames. Besides being a victim, Tahirys is a hero, you could say."
Dos Santos, an "exemplary player and a leader" highly valued at FC Metz
Suffering a severe head injury, Dos Santos (19 years old) is currently being treated in a hospital in Stuttgart, Germany, while awaiting transfer to the Mercy Hospital in Metz, France. His family and friends are with him, and his club, FC Metz, is maintaining regular contact with his agent and family to monitor his condition. His girlfriend, Coline L. (22 years old), suffered burns to 30% of her body and is hospitalized in Antwerp, Belgium.
