Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly, currently playing for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, paid tribute to his former teammate Gonzalo Higuaín. A guest on the YouTube show "Zack en roue libre," the captain of the Lions of Teranga offered glowing praise for the former Argentinian striker, whom he considers the best forward he ever played with.
“Higuaín is, for me, one of the best strikers I’ve ever played with, maybe even the best,” Koulibaly confided. “You could give him the ball in midfield, and he’d score a goal all by himself… it was incredible. Under Maurizio Sarri, it was even more impressive. I’ve never seen a player work so hard in front of goal. Out of thirty touches, fifteen to the left, fifteen to the right, he’d score twenty-eight. Even when the goalkeeper made a perfect save, he’d find a way to score. He was monstrous with his head. He’s truly one of the best strikers I’ve ever shared the pitch with,” he declared.
Between 2014 and 2016, Koulibaly and Higuaín formed a formidable team in Naples, enhanced by Maurizio Sarri's elegant style of play. The Senegalese defender subsequently had the opportunity to play alongside other great strikers, such as Victor Osimhen at Napoli and Sadio Mané for the national team, but he retains a particular admiration for the Argentinian striker.

Having played for Real Madrid, Gonzalo Higuaín has left his mark on the history of the clubs he has served. With Los Blancos, he scored 121 goals in 258 matches, before shining at Napoli with 91 goals in 146 appearances, including a record-breaking 36-goal season in Serie A. A career that fully justifies the admiration of a player as respected as Kalidou Koulibaly.
