FOOTBALL : LA LÉGION DE GENDARMERIE DE TAMBACOUNDA REMPORTE LE TROPHÉE DU HAUT-COMMANDANT

The final of the National Gendarmerie football competition, 2025 edition, took place on Monday, December 15, 2025 on the grounds of the General Waly Faye barracks in Mbao.

The ceremony was presided over by Major General Martin Faye, High Commander of the National Gendarmerie and Director of Military Justice, in the presence of Brigadier General Assane Beye, Commander of the Territorial Gendarmerie, Brigadier General Jean Bertrand Bocandé, Commander of the Mobile Gendarmerie, as well as several other military authorities.

This competition aims to promote sports practice, strengthen the spirit of cohesion within units and identify the most talented footballers for the renewal of the National Gendarmerie football team.

The finals first pitted the women's teams of the Gendarmerie against each other, before the very close match between the Gendarmerie Intervention Legion (LGI) and the Gendarmerie Legion of Tambacounda (LGTC).

At the end of the matches, the women's team from the command emerged victorious against the women's gendarmerie team. Meanwhile, the Tambacounda Gendarmerie Legion, under the command of Colonel Birima Fall, won the men's final after a penalty shootout, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye, head of the Communication and Public Relations Division of the National Gendarmerie.

The Kédougou Legion team was ranked third, while the Road Security Legion team was named the fair play team of the tournament.

Satisfied with the smooth running of the competition, the High Commander of the National Gendarmerie congratulated all the participants and urged the staff to practice more sport, a guarantee of discipline, cohesion and performance.

Individual rewards:

Best player: female gendarme Ramatoulaye Gueye from the Gender Division

Best player: Gendarme Joseph Sarr of the Intervention Gendarmerie Legion

Top scorer: Gendarme Ben Amar Diéye of the Kaolack Gendarmerie Legion

Best goalkeeper: Brigadier Sorry Ibrahima Diallo of the Tambacounda Gendarmerie Legion

Highest-ranking player: Squadron Leader Serigne Fallou Guèye of the Dakar Gendarmerie Legion.
