Graciés par le Roi du Maroc : le calvaire continue pour les 18 supporters des Lions
Following the release and return to Senegal of three of them, the remaining 18 Lions supporters imprisoned in Morocco, in connection with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, have been freed and returned home thanks to a pardon from King Mohammed VI. The former detainees were received at the Palace by President Diomaye Faye, who presented each of them with a sheep for Eid al-Adha and an envelope containing 2 million CFA francs.
Despite this presidential attention, the ordeal continues for most of those affected. "Many cannot return home. Psychologically, we are not yet ready. Physically, too, we need medical follow-up after this nightmare," warned Ibrahima Ndiaye, who is part of the group, in comments reported by Le Soleil.
According to the national daily newspaper, he was speaking during the meeting between the 18 Lions fans and the president of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), Amsatou Sow Sidibé.
“Some supporters reported losing their jobs, while others say they are still suffering the psychological consequences of their time in prison,” reports Le Soleil. The paper adds that Amsatou Sow Sidibé indicated that “several supporters were working abroad before their arrest and now find themselves in a precarious situation, unable to resume their professional activities.”
