Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso announced on Thursday after the victory in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atlético (2-1) that French striker Kylian Mbappé would join his group in Saudi Arabia on Friday to play in the final on Sunday against FC Barcelona.
"Mbappé will travel tomorrow, and the match will be different from tonight's. He is much better, he trained today and his feelings are good. He will have the same chance of playing on Sunday as all the other players who are part of the group," said Xabi Alonso at a press conference.
Mbappé injured his knee
The Basque coach had assured the day before that Kylian Mbappé, injured in his left knee and absent from the official group announced by the club to play in the tournament, was not fit enough to play in the semi-final won against Atlético (2-1).
The captain of Les Bleus, the Spanish giant's prolific goalscorer (18 league goals and nine Champions League goals this season), could therefore come into play depending on how the match unfolds, as he did last season in the Copa del Rey final, which they lost in extra time against Barça (3-2).
