Denied the Italian championship title by Napoli by one point last season, Inter Milan regained their place at the top of Serie A by winning their 21st scudetto on Sunday, their third in six years.

Having defeated Parma 2-0 at the San Siro in Matchday 35, thanks to goals from Marcus Thuram (45+1) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (80), Inter Milan can no longer be caught. With three matches remaining and a maximum of nine points still up for grabs, they hold a 12-point lead over Napoli (2nd) and a 15-point advantage over AC Milan (3rd).

Inter's season is not yet over, however. The Lombardy club can still achieve the Serie A/Copa del Rey double, the third in its history after 2005-06 and 2009-10, if it beats Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on May 13 at the Stadio Olimpico.

This title already validates the decision to entrust the team to Cristian Chivu, a former Inter player who had only a handful of Serie A matches to his credit as a coach when he succeeded Simone Inzaghi last June, who left to everyone's surprise to coach the Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Even if they were to achieve the Italian Championship/Cup double, the Inter players, led by their captain Lautaro Martinez, top scorer in Serie A with 16 goals, would not completely make people forget their defeat in the Champions League.

They were eliminated from the premier competition of European football, of which they were finalists in 2023 and 2025, as early as February and the play-offs for access to the round of 16 by the modest Norwegian club of Bodø-Glimt.
