JOJ 2026 : Le Sénégal promet un dispositif sécuritaire exceptionnel pour l’événement
As the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) approach, Senegal is mobilizing a large-scale security effort to host this first Olympic event in Africa. The safety of delegations, officials, spectators, and stakeholders is a national priority, strongly affirmed by the authorities. This Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Jean Baptiste Tine,
chaired the installation meeting of the National Youth Olympic Security Coordination Committee (NYOGC). This strategic meeting brought together officials from the defense and security forces, administrative authorities, international partners, and representatives of the diplomatic corps, marking a key step in the establishment of a structured and inclusive security system.
A clear ambition: to guarantee optimal security
In his speech, Minister Tine emphasized the importance of the YOG as a source of national pride and an opportunity to demonstrate Senegal's organizational capabilities. "Your massive presence demonstrates the importance our nation attaches to the security of this global event. The State of Senegal is fully committed to ensuring optimal security for all participants in the Dakar 2026 YOG," he said, reassuring foreign delegations and diplomatic missions. Driven by Senegalese values of peace and hospitality, the country aims to make the 2026 YOG a model of collaborative security, relying on strengthened international cooperation. Senegal says it is ready to integrate expertise in cybersecurity, intelligence, close protection, and crisis management. A direct liaison mechanism with embassies will be established to ensure seamless coordination and maximum responsiveness.
A roadmap for a robust device
Over three days, the CNSJOJ, composed of representatives from the security forces, health, civil protection, intelligence, and international partners, will work to structure the committee, define its operating procedures, create specialized commissions, and develop a clear roadmap. This participatory process aims to ensure a coordinated, proactive security response that meets the requirements of a global event.
A test of Senegalese know-how
Scheduled for October 31 to November 13, 2026, in Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly, the Dakar 2026 YOG will be a historic sporting event and a major test of Senegal's security capabilities. With a mobilized budget of 18.2 billion FCFA out of the 36 billion needed, and international partnerships such as the one with the French Development Agency (AFD) for the rehabilitation of sports infrastructure, Senegal aims to make this event an example of excellence, solidarity, and international collaboration on African soil.
