Kylian Mbappé sets a condition for becoming a coach at the end of his career

Kylian Mbappé's career seems a long way off. The Bondy native is only 27 and still has titles to win, Ballon d'Or awards to lift, and a few records to break before even thinking about international retirement. But in a recent interview published by Le Parisien, he was nevertheless asked if he had any plans for the end of his career.

"Football will always hold a special place."

He answered in the affirmative.

“I’m at a point where I’m giving myself the opportunity to have many options after my career. I have a well-established business. If I want to be a businessman, I’ll be a businessman. If I want to have bigger aspirations, I’ll have bigger aspirations. I can also take care of the Foundation, but it’s certain that football will always have a special place,” replied the Bondy native.

Regarding a possible career change to coaching, he says he doesn't think about it too much, but assures that he will not embrace such a profession without "mourning his playing career".

"Until I have mourned my playing career, I will not be a coach, because you can no longer think like a player when you are a coach. No matter how great a player you were, you can no longer think like a player because the only thing you have to do as a coach is to pass on your knowledge," said Mbappé.

"I will only become a coach if I have passed that stage, otherwise I will not do it."

He said he had seen great players become average coaches "because they hadn't come to terms with their playing careers and didn't have the right approach."
