La coupe, les médailles et le prize money : Les révélations des avocats de la Fédération sur la décision de la CAF
Seydou Diagne, the coordinator of the Senegalese Football Federation's legal team, sought to reassure the Senegalese people. He even revealed that the CAF had not requested the return of the trophy, let alone the medals.
“I am going to tell you something that is not known to the general public for a number of reasons, but which is not incompatible with the arbitration procedure which is underway,” declared Mr. Diagne to the press on Thursday in Paris.
The lawyer revealed that Morocco made four requests to CAF. He stated that they first requested a finding that the Senegalese team had withdrawn. On this point, “the finding was made by the disciplinary committee.” They then asked CAF to recognize the victory by default. And the appeals disciplinary committee “granted them this second point, along with the confirmation of the withdrawal.”
“But Morocco is asking for two even more important things: that the title be taken away from the winning team on the field, which is Senegal, and that the medals and prize money be given to them. The last two requests were rejected by the appeals jury,” explains the coordinator of the Fsf lawyers’ collective.
The lawyer clarifies that the CAF did not mention this in the official documents: “The appeals jury, in the decision notified to us, clearly indicated that it rejected all other requests from the Royal Moroccan Federation. The 3-0 victory is noted. The withdrawal of the Senegalese team is noted. But the requests for the return of the trophy, the prize money, and the request for Morocco to be crowned champions are rejected,” he specifies.
The coordinator of the Senegalese Football Federation's lawyers' collective points out that to be absolutely certain, one only needs to look at point nine of the new regulations. That is why he wanted to reassure Senegalese fans, supporters, and those who believe in the rule of law.
“There is no decision to date from the CAF, from its appeals jury, ordering the Senegalese football federation or the national team to return the medals and the trophy acquired on the field. This decision does not exist,” he specifies.
