L’Angola champion d’Afrobasket2025. Dundão MVP, Canals fier de ses jeunes
Twelve years after its last continental title, Angola is once again African champion.
A hero to his fans, Childe Dundão was named the tournament's MVP after leading his team with 16 points and 5 assists in the final, despite limited shooting (only 8%). But beyond the numbers, the Petro de Luanda point guard embodied the team's soul through his energy and leadership.
Interviewed by Seneweb, he expressed his emotion: "It's indescribable. We fought for this, I'm very happy. Being MVP and helping the team win... I have no words."
The 1.67m point guard was able to respond with results to all his detractors who doubted him because of his height. "I tell kids: always believe, don't let anyone put you down. Anyone can succeed with hard work."
Angola's Spanish coach, José Claros Canals, stressed the self-sacrifice and solidarity of his group:
"It was tough from the start, but my players gave it their all. They are young, inexperienced, but they played for the team, not for themselves. I am proud of this team and the Angolan people who supported us."
Canals did not fail to praise his leader: "Childe was the best player in this tournament. No one his size could have played at this level. He is an example for all of Africa, which is fighting for its dreams: with perseverance, you can be the best."
While Angola can savor this 12th continental title, it is undeniable that the course of the competition has been marked by several refereeing controversies which have inflamed debates on the international scene, making this title victory a little less clear.
