Le message de Patrice Motsepe aux Sénégalais : « Nous sommes avec vous, le football ne doit pas diviser »
In a tense atmosphere marked by the legal wrangling surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, attempted to mediate. Speaking this Sunday, March 29, in Cairo, during a closely watched Executive Committee (ExCom) meeting, he delivered a message of solidarity to the Senegalese people.
“My message is that we are with you, we support you. We are all Africans. I gave the same message to the Moroccans,” he declared, emphasizing that many Senegalese live in Morocco and that sport must remain a unifying force. “We are not going to use football to divide people; it must bring us together,” he insisted.
A visit to Dakar has been announced.
Seeking to dispel misunderstandings, the head of African football announced his intention to visit Senegal in the coming weeks. Patrice Motsepe took the opportunity to pay tribute to the passion of the Lions of Teranga supporters, saying he was "impressed" by their strong presence in the Moroccan stands throughout the competition.
These statements come as the Cairo Executive Committee is the first meeting to be held since the controversial decision by the disciplinary committee to award the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco by default. While this decision could be formalized during this session, Motsepe's speech appears aimed at extinguishing the simmering diplomatic tensions between Dakar and Cairo.
