Libye : gros coup dur financier pour Aliou Cissé
Ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Libya will play two friendly matches against Niger and Benin. However, their coach, Aliou Cissé, and his staff are not approaching these matches in the best of circumstances. L'Observateur reports that the Senegalese coach and his team have gone eight months without pay.
If you do the math, the Libyan Football Federation owes the former coach of the Lions, who earns $80,000 (45 million CFA francs) per month, a total of 360 million CFA francs. "The situation has become so tense that an appeal to FIFA is now a possibility, given that the federation is mired in serious financial difficulties and on the verge of bankruptcy, according to several sources," reports the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
The head of Libyan football, Abdulmola Al-Maghribi, quoted by the newspaper, confirms these cash flow problems, which "have delayed the payment of salaries for the coach of the Libyan national team and his staff."
Aliou Cissé's contract with Libya runs until 2027. He took over in March 2025, after his contract as coach of the Lions was not renewed.
