Liga espagnole : le Barça réclame une enquête approfondie sur le transfert de Antoine Griezmann
As he prepares to leave the Spanish league, Antoine Griezmann's 2019 transfer to FC Barcelona has resurfaced within the Catalan club. Indeed, Barça wants to shed light on the negotiations surrounding this deal. According to the EFE news agency, the Catalan club has filed a complaint with the court investigating Josep Maria Bartomeu in order to broaden the investigation into him, particularly regarding suspicions of embezzlement and accounting fraud.
At the heart of the new questions is the transfer of Antoine Griezmann, signed in 2019 for €120 million from Atlético de Madrid. Barça is seeking to determine whether lawyer José Ángel González Franco received a €1.5 million commission in the deal. Current president Joan Laporta has reportedly demanded clarification on the transaction.
To support its claim, the club submitted several emails from that period. Some messages suggest that pressure was exerted by Barcelona representatives on the player's entourage to secure approval of this commission.
For his part, Josep Maria Bartomeu firmly rejects these accusations. The former president maintains that no money was paid to the lawyer, neither by Barça nor by the Madrid club. To shed light on this matter, the Catalan club has also requested that Antoine Griezmann and his sister, who manages his affairs, be questioned. Bartomeu opposes this request.
It remains to be seen whether this investigation will establish responsibility in this sensitive case.
