Ligue 1 : Luis Enrique recadre brutalement Ousmane Dembélé après Rennes-PSG
Ousmane Dembélé's comments after PSG's 3-1 defeat to Rennes on Friday did not sit well with Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique. He sharply reprimanded his star player in the post-match press conference.
"I will not allow any player to think that he is more important than the club. Not me, not the sporting director, not the president, not the club. These statements are worthless. They are the result of anger after a match, and I think that's obvious," said the Asturian coach.
"If everyone plays for themselves on the field, it won't work."
It's worth remembering that Dembélé criticized his teammates after the defeat against Rennes. The former Barcelona player felt they needed to think more about the club and be less selfish.
“If everyone plays for themselves on the pitch, it won’t work and we won’t win the titles we want. Last season, we put the club, the badge, Paris Saint-Germain first, before thinking about ourselves. We need to rediscover that mindset, especially in matches like this one. We need to show more desire,” the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner declared. He will certainly have to think twice before making such remarks in the future. His coach doesn’t appreciate such comments.
"Let's be clear. I am responsible for the team."
He made it very clear to him that he is not above the team. "I will never allow a player to put himself above the club. The players' statements at the end of the match have no value. None whatsoever. Neither do those of the coaches. Let that be clear. I am responsible for the team," the Spanish coach stated unequivocally.
