Ligue 1 sénégalaise : Cristiano Justino Cabo, la nouvelle muraille de Génération Foot
Cristiano Justino Cabo has established himself as one of the defensive revelations of Génération Foot. At just 21 years old, the solid central defender is stringing together convincing performances in Ligue 1 and harbors great ambitions, like the talents who came before him from the Déni Biram Ndao academy.
Sadio Mané, Ismaïla Sarr, Habib Diallo, Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly and Pape Matar Sarr: so many attacking players trained at Déni Biram Ndao who have brought joy to Génération Foot and European clubs.
However, the next great talent to emerge from this academy could very well be a defender. His name: Cristiano Justino Cabo.
Having arrived at Génération Foot two years ago from NSFC Iyane Thiam of Matam, the imposing defender (1.88 m, 82 kg) quickly rose through the ranks. In his first season, he played 34 matches in all competitions and won the Senegalese Cup against Jaraaf (1-0).
This season, the young central defender is confirming his full potential. With 19 league appearances in 21 matchdays, he has established himself as a key player for Generation Foot (7th, 27 pts). He attributes these performances largely to his successful integration into the team.
“My integration at Génération Foot went well. The players, the technical staff and the management welcomed me warmly,” he said.
Regarding the season's objectives, Cristiano Justino Cabo remains ambitious despite the elimination from the Senegal Cup.
“At the start of the season, our ambition was to win all three trophies: the league championship, the Senegal Cup and the League Cup. Even though we were eliminated from the Senegal Cup, we want to finish the season with at least one trophy,” explained the solid defender.
On a personal level, the 21-year-old player, who takes Kalidou Koulibaly and Virgil van Dijk as role models, dreams of following in the footsteps of his elders who came through Génération Foot to play in Europe.
“Like all players my age, my goal is to sign in Europe and play in the biggest leagues. To achieve this, I must continue to work and perform well with my club,” he added.
Given the consistency he has shown over the past two seasons with Génération Foot, Cristiano Justino Cabo seems to have all the qualities necessary to realize his dream.
