Third in the Senegalese Ligue 1, US Gorée (41 points) remains fully committed to the title race. Despite their elimination from the Senegalese Cup, defender Khalifa Babacar Ba is displaying his confidence and wants to guide the islanders to a successful end to the season.

 

Still in contention for the league title, US Gorée refuses to give up. Currently third in the Senegalese Ligue 1 with 41 points and six matches remaining, the island club intends to finish the season strongly despite its surprise elimination in the quarter-finals of the Senegalese Cup against Université Sporting Club de Saint-Louis.

 

Khalifa Babacar Ba, the central defender for the Gorée team, firmly believes in his club's chances and clearly displays his ambitions for the end of the season.

 

“Last season, we missed out on the title on the last day. It was very hard, but we had to accept it. This year, we were involved in two competitions, unfortunately we were eliminated from the Senegal Cup. Now, we will do everything to finish the season in style and why not win the championship,” said the solid defender who came up through the ranks at Ndiambour de Louga.

  

Despite the slight setback experienced in recent weeks, the former Sonacos player remains confident in his team's ability to bounce back.

 

“We have a good group and the coach is doing a remarkable job. I think we have every reason to be optimistic for the rest of the season,” he added.

  

On a personal level, the former U20 international also harbors great ambitions. He hopes to capitalize on US Gorée's strong performances to finally secure a contract in Europe, after missing out on a first opportunity in Luxembourg two years ago.

  

“It’s every footballer’s dream in the country. Two years ago, I had a contract in Luxembourg, but unfortunately it was terminated. I remain confident. If I continue to work hard, I can achieve my goal of playing in a European league,” concluded Khalifa Babacar Ba. With six matchdays remaining, the imposing (1.94m) player and his teammates need to be more clinical to overtake the two Rufisque clubs, AJEL (1st, 44 points) and Teungueth FC (2nd, 42 points).
