Ligue des champions CAF : soirée amère pour les clubs égyptiens
A difficult evening for Egyptian clubs in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals. After Pyramids' elimination against FAR Rabat, it was Al Ahly's turn to fall at this stage of the competition.
Cairo's club, record holders for trophies in the competition, were eliminated on their home turf by Espérance de Tunis (2-3). Yet, Al Ahly had started the match well, with Trezeguet opening the scoring in the 18th minute.
But in the second half, the Tunisians turned the situation around thanks to goals from Danho (68th) and Tougaï from a penalty (78th).
In the final six minutes, the Egyptians pulled one back with an own goal from Hamza Jelassi (84th minute). However, he redeemed himself by scoring the winning goal for Espérance in stoppage time (90+4).
Having won the first leg (1-0), the Tunisian club thus qualifies for the semi-finals.
