The fifth and penultimate matchday of the CAF Champions League has delivered its first verdicts. Al Ahly, Pyramids, and Stade Malien have secured their qualification for the quarterfinals, while the battle remains wide open in several groups with one matchday remaining in the group stage.

The fifth and penultimate matchday of the CAF Champions League, which began on Friday, concluded on Sunday. In Group A, Pyramids FC, the reigning African champions, secured a resounding 4-1 victory away to Rivers United. This fourth win in five matches guarantees the Egyptian club (1st, 13 points) a place in the quarterfinals. The second qualifying spot in the group will be contested between RS Berkane, featuring Mamadou Lamine Camara, and Power Dynamos, both with 7 points. The Zambians, who defeated Berkane 2-0, will need to win their final group match against Pyramids FC and hope for a slip-up from RS Berkane at home against Rivers United, the group's bottom-placed team (4th, 1 point).

In Group B, Al Ahly also secured their qualification for the quarterfinals. The record holders for titles in the competition earned a draw in Algeria against JS Kabylie (0-0). Thanks to this point, the Egyptian giants (1st, 9 points) are guaranteed to finish in the top two. Second in the group, FAR Rabat (8 points) defeated Young Africans (1-0). With this victory, the Moroccans take a decisive step towards qualifying for the quarterfinals. As for Young Africans, despite being third (5 points), they must win on the final matchday against JS Kabylie while hoping for a slip-up from FAR Rabat.

In Group C, Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan (1st, 8 points) lost in Algeria to MC Alger (2-1). Thanks to this victory, the Algerians (2nd, 7 points) are back in contention for qualification. In the other match in the group, Saint-Éloi Lupopo (4th, 5 points) and Mamelodi Sundowns (3rd, 6 points) played to a draw (1-1). All four teams in the group remain in contention for qualification on the final matchday.

In Group D, Stade Malien secured their place in the quarterfinals. At home, the Malians defeated Espérance de Tunis 1-0. With 11 points, Stade Malien is guaranteed to finish top of the group. In Angola, Petro Luanda missed the opportunity to claim second place, drawing 1-1 against Simba SC. On the final matchday, Espérance de Tunis (2nd, 6 points) and Petro Luanda will battle for the second qualifying spot.
