Macron apporte son soutien à Mbappé face aux "attaques racistes" d'une sénatrice paraguayenne
"The President of the Republic supports Kylian Mbappé and the French team in the face of the racist attacks to which the captain of Les Bleus has been subjected. The Paraguayan President has written to the French President in this regard, condemning the remarks that have been made, as has the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the French Presidency indicated.
Senator Celeste Amarilla violently attacked the Blues superstar after his country's defeat (1-0), calling him an "idiot" who "hasn't even learned to write", or a "Cameroonian from the colonial era, desperately trying to pass for a Frenchman".
Many French political figures had previously condemned the remarks made by this senator, including two candidates for the 2027 presidential election, Gabriel Attal (Renaissance) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon (La France insoumise).
"Racism and discrimination have no place anywhere," the first wrote on X, showing his "support." "Racism degrades those who perpetrate it. It is the dishonor of Paraguay, you are the honor of France," the second thundered on the same network, addressing the French striker who scored against Paraguay.
