Mamadou Sangaré, Prix Marc Vivien Foé 2026 : La réaction de Pierre Sage, son coach à Lens
In France, RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangaré has won the 2026 Marc Vivien Foé Award. This was announced on Monday, May 11, 2026, by Radio France Internationale (RFI) and France 24, which award the prize.
The player, who trained at Yeelen Olympique de Bamako, is one of the architects of the great season of the Blood and Gold, currently runners-up to Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
"He is generous with football."
Asked after the Malian international's triumph, Pierre Sage, the coach of the northern club, declared that his protégé fully deserved this award in view of his season.
"I always have a little trouble, at first glance, with individual awards, but in any case, yes it is true that his talent really shines through and I would say that it is deserved," said the French coach who was full of praise for the native of Bamako.
“He’s a generous player, but not just in the sense of effort. He’s generous with football. He brings an approach, a performance that lives up to what people expect in a stadium: using the ball well, running a lot, scoring beautiful goals, being supportive of his teammates. He embodies the Lens style of play, but he also showcases all his talent in service of the collective game. He touches the ball a lot in a match,” said Pierre Sage.
It is worth noting that Mamadou Sangaré is the first Malian player to win this prize.
