Marathon de Londres: le Kényan Sabastian Sawe premier homme de l'histoire sous les 2 heures
Sebastian Sawe (29 years old) became the first athlete to run a marathon in less than two hours, on Sunday in London, where the Kenyan retained his title ahead of Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha and Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo.
Sawe crossed the finish line in front of Buckingham Palace after 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds and shattered the old world record set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2 hours, 1 minute and 25 seconds in April 2023, less than a year before his death in a car crash.
Kejelcha (1h59:41) also completed the 42.195 km in less than two hours, a performance all the more incredible as the half-marathon specialist was lining up for the first time on the main distance.
Kiplimo (2:00:28), second last year in his first marathon, also achieved a better time than that set by Kiptum three years ago.
Sawe was leading a group of six riders when he launched an attack before the 30-kilometer mark. Only Kejelcha managed to stay with him, with Kiplimo a few meters behind.
