Maroc champion d'Afrique : La réaction de Yassine Bounou qui divise les Marocains
The Confederation of African Football has decided, by default, to award the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco at the expense of Senegal. Among Moroccan footballers, however, there is little cause for celebration.
After Morocco's 1-1 friendly draw against Ecuador, goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, one of the team's stars, was asked about their "new title." But the Al Hilal player didn't seem to be celebrating a victory by default. "New African champions? Look, my answer is what our federation announced. That's it," the footballer said. "We're focused on what's happening. We're not getting involved in all that (editor's note: media appearances)... The experience during the Africa Cup of Nations was difficult for the national team. But the Moroccan national team managed to overcome this challenge mentally. It wasn't an easy period, but we managed our matches well," he added.
This reaction has sparked division in Morocco, as it stands in stark contrast to the jubilation displayed by some Moroccan fans on social media. In fact, several of these fans criticized their players for not celebrating their CAF African Championship title. Adding to this is the new controversy created by several Moroccan players who "liked" posts from Senegalese players celebrating their 2025 AFCON victory at the Stade de France.
On the other hand, this reservation from the Moroccan players is understood by others, who believe that the appeal to the CAS maintains the suspense on the winner of the trophy.
