Monaco : Lamine Camara dans le viseur de Sunderland
Currently in Morocco with the Senegalese national team for the Africa Cup of Nations, Lamine Camara could see his immediate future lie away from the Principality. The AS Monaco midfielder is attracting interest from England, where Sunderland are planning a major signing during the winter transfer window.
After a convincing first half of the Premier League season, the English club, surprisingly sitting 7th in the table, is looking to strengthen its squad to maintain its momentum in the race for European qualification. According to British media outlet TEAMtalk, the Black Cats have made the Monaco player one of their top priorities.
Coached by Régis Le Bris, Sunderland could once again turn to the Senegalese talent pool. The club already has Habib Diarra in its ranks and sees Lamine Camara as a player capable of bringing work rate, impact, and technical quality to its midfield. At just 21 years old, the former FC Metz and Génération Foot player has quickly established himself at Monaco, making 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
However, AS Monaco has no intention of selling its Senegalese international on the cheap. Signed for around €15 million in the summer of 2024, Lamine Camara is now valued at considerably more. To convince the Monaco management, Sunderland will have to make a substantial investment, likely more than double the initial offer. This saga may have only just begun.
