Mondial 2026 : La Guinée termine à la 4ᵉ Place malgré l'invincibilité de Paulo Duarte
The Syli National of Guinea ended its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-2 draw against Botswana on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Mohammed V stadium.
A match without any real stakes, the two teams having already been eliminated from the race for qualification.
The tone was set from the opening minutes: Segolame Boy opened the scoring for Botswana in the 7th minute. Guinea's response was swift: Abdoul Karim Traoré, with a well-placed header from a cross by Yadali Diaby, set the record straight (17th minute). Guinea then took the lead thanks to Aliou Baldé (35th minute), before Gape Mohutsiwa took advantage of a defensive mix-up to equalize in added time (45+1st minute).
Halftime reached with the score at 2-2. The score would not change despite several changes made by Paulo Duarte in the second half, notably with the introduction of Alhassane Bangoura.
Encouraging results for Paulo Duarte
Recently arrived at the head of the Syli National, Paulo Duarte remains undefeated after four matches (2 wins, 2 draws).
Despite the elimination, this unbeaten run offers a glimmer of hope for the reconstruction of a Guinean group in search of stability and offensive realism.
