Mondial-2026: l'Espagne avec Yamal, Pedri et Gavi, sans aucun joueur du Real Madrid
Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente unveiled his 26-man squad on Monday to compete in the 2026 World Cup this summer, including FC Barcelona stars Lamine Yamal and Pedri, but no Real Madrid players.
For the first time since 1932, Spain, the reigning European champions and among the favorites for the tournament to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico (June 11 - July 19), have no Real Madrid players in their squad.
Coach Luis de la Fuente has retained the core of his team that won Euro 2024 in Germany, led by 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, and FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who is currently recovering from a left thigh injury.
The Spanish coach made a decisive move in defence by calling up Barcelona's Eric Garcia and the versatile Marc Pubill, to accompany the young Pau Cubarsi and the Franco-Spanish Aymeric Laporte, leaving out Robin Le Normand and Dean Huijsen.
In midfield, Gavi, one of the key players for La Roja at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has been recalled for the first time since his serious knee injury suffered at the end of November 2023, after a convincing end to the season with Barça.
De la Fuente has chosen Osasuna's young winger Victor Munoz and Celta Vigo's striker Borja Iglesias to strengthen the Spanish attack, led as in 2024 by Yamal and Nico Williams, but this time without Alvaro Morata, logically absent after a failed season at Como.
