Achraf Hakimi, who already faced his PSG captain, Brazilian Marquinhos, during the group stage, warned that there would be no room for sentimentality on the pitch, emphasizing Morocco's ambition "to make history." While Saibari and Salah-Eddine described the reunion as "nice" and "fantastic," the Atlas Lions' coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, was keen to put things into perspective, stating that his players are "Moroccans first and foremost, and they will win this match." Having been born in Belgium himself, the coach admitted understanding the emotional weight of this encounter against "a country that has given us so much."
Beyond individual performances, this round of 32 match carries significant symbolic weight. Morocco, semi-finalists in Qatar and crowned African champions this year, aspire to reach their first World Cup final. Facing them are the Netherlands, historically unlucky at this stage, having lost three finals.
