Senegalese triple jumper Saly Sarr distinguished herself on the international stage by winning a bronze medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championships, held this Saturday, March 21, in Kujawy-Pomorze, Poland. With a jump of 14.70 meters, the athlete also set a new personal best.

The Director of the African Athletics Development Centre (CAA) in Dakar, El Hadji Amadou Dia Ba, warmly congratulated the champion on behalf of all his colleagues. He praised her high-level performance, which confirms the steady progress of Senegalese athletics.

This is a remarkable achievement, as she beat her personal best and follows in the footsteps of the late Kéne Ndoye, who also won a bronze medal at these World Championships. We wish Saly Sarr continued success; she is a two-time African champion, not to mention her finalist positions at the World Youth Championships and her semi-finalist appearance at the last Paris 2024 Olympic Games, stated the CAA director.

Thus, for El Hadji Amadou Dia Ba, with more sustained support from the State, the athlete could legitimately aim for a medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The official also expressed his gratitude to the partners who contributed to this success, including the African Athletics Confederation, the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee, the Senegalese Athletics Federation, and CONFEJES, which supported the athlete through a scholarship for several years.

Beyond this distinction, this performance reinforces the credibility of the Dakar Development Centre, which has already contributed to the emergence of renowned champions such as Cheikh Touré, Francoise Bango, double Olympic champion, Amy Mbacke Thiam world champion, Amantle Moucho world champion, Marie José Talou, Louis François Mendy, Gina Bass.

El Hadji Amadou Dia Ba praised the performance of the other Senegalese athletes involved, notably Louis François Mendy and Amath Faye, while advocating for increased support from the authorities in order to raise national athletics further to the highest level.

Saly Sarr est née en France. Elle a d’abord concouru pour la France, puis a choisi en 2021 de changer de nationalité sportive pour représenter le Sénégal.
