« Naples m’a traité comme un chien », affirme Victor Osimhen
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has spoken candidly about his last few months at SSC Napoli, claiming he was treated unfairly despite his contribution to the club's success.
Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli's historic Serie A triumph in the 2022/23 season under Luciano Spalletti, finishing as the league's top scorer and contributing to the club's first title in over thirty years. However, his performances dipped the following season amid growing uncertainty about his future.
Although the 27-year-old signed a contract extension in December 2023, he revealed there had been a prior agreement that he would be allowed to leave the club the following summer, an agreement which he claims was not honored.
"We had a verbal agreement that I could leave the following summer, but it was not fully respected," Osimhen said, as reported by Football Italia.
"They tried to push me in every direction: go here, go there. After all the sacrifices I made to build my career, I couldn't accept being treated like that. I'm not a puppet," he added.
The Nigerian international has finally joined Galatasaray SK permanently for a fee of 75 million euros after an initial loan period.
Osimhen also revealed that Juventus had shown serious interest in signing him in 2024. He confirmed that former Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli had personally contacted him before discussions with Galatasaray progressed.
“Yes, there was interest,” Osimhen said. “When Juventus are interested in us, we always listen. I spoke with people at the club, but I knew the Napoli president wouldn’t approve the transfer.”
Now playing in Turkey, Osimhen has become a key player for Galatasaray, with 15 goals and three assists in 22 appearances, as Okan Buruk's team aims for a fourth consecutive league title.
