Nguimb polémique : la réaction forte du président de la Fédé de lutte
“On behalf of the wrestler, the federation, and all athletes, we offer our apologies.” With these words, reported by Record, the president of the Senegalese Wrestling Federation, Bira Sène, attempted to quell the controversy that arose following the Modou Lô-Sa Thiès match last Sunday at the National Arena. Doudou Sané, who was scheduled to compete in one of the preliminary bouts of the gala, appeared wearing a nguimb (traditional Senegalese loincloth) bearing Quranic inscriptions.
The head of the Senegalese wrestling federation didn't stop there. Reminding everyone that "the federation's rules forbid this," Bira Sène revealed that he had issued "a circular reminding everyone of the prohibitions outlined in the regulations" and "the resulting sanctions." Furthermore, he continued, "the wrestler in question has been summoned by the Rules and Disciplinary Committee for a hearing."
The president of the Wrestling Federation concluded by assuring that the body he leads "is against any act that could offend anyone's religious beliefs."
