OGC Nice : Yehvann Diouf écarté, Maxime Dupé installé dans les buts ?
This change has raised questions on the French Riviera. Since Claude Puel took over as manager of OGC Nice at the end of December, the goalkeeping hierarchy seems to have been completely reshuffled. Maxime Dupé, previously the backup, is now preferred to Yehvann Diouf in the Nice goal.
Aged 32, Dupé has played five Ligue 1 matches this season, all under the new manager, while Diouf (26), the starting goalkeeper during the first half of the season with sixteen league appearances, has fallen down the pecking order. The Senegalese goalkeeper is paying the price for his absence at the start of Claude Puel's tenure, when he was playing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. During this period, the Nice manager opted to give Dupé another chance, and the Senegalese striker seized it.
When questioned at a press conference, Claude Puel remained deliberately vague about his goalkeeping situation, without, however, giving any indication of wanting to quickly revert to the old hierarchy. "I don't want to elaborate on the goalkeeper role. I've seen both players, we've discussed it, and that's the most important thing. The goalkeeper is part of the starting eleven," he stated.
However, this decision is surprising. Before his departure for the AFCON, Yehvann Diouf was among the few bright spots in a difficult first half of the season for Gym, establishing himself as one of the most consistent and effective players in the squad.
It remains to be seen whether this reversed hierarchy will last or if future performances will reshuffle the cards. In the meantime, Claude Puel is staying the course, at the risk of fueling the debate surrounding a key position.
