Organisation CAN-2032 : Entre ambition sportive et défis logistiques pour le Sénégal
Senegal dreams of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations again. Speaking to members of parliament on Monday at the National Assembly, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, officially announced the Senegalese authorities' intention to submit a bid to host the 2032 AFCON.
If this project succeeds, the country would regain the honor of hosting the most prestigious African competition, forty years after the 1992 edition held on Senegalese soil.
Since that time, Senegal has established itself as one of the great nations of African football, notably thanks to the historic victory of the Lions at the CAN-2021, before climbing a second time to the top in 2026, but has not hosted the continental tournament since.
To achieve this ambition, the State intends to rely on the gradual development of sports infrastructure across the country. In recent years, several stadiums have been built, such as the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium, which has become one of the symbols of the renewal of Senegalese sport.
However, despite these advances, Senegal is still far from fully meeting the requirements imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host an AFCON.
CAF requirements include two competition stadiums with a minimum capacity of 15,000 seats; at least two stadiums with 20,000 seats and two venues that can accommodate at least 40,000 spectators.
In addition to this, several essential ancillary infrastructures are required, including natural grass training pitches for each host site, facilities reserved for referees, and appropriate medical equipment, including the permanent presence of fully equipped ambulances.

Each training center must also have modern changing rooms with precise standards for showers, toilets, sinks and sanitary facilities.
The challenge therefore appears considerable for the Senegalese authorities, who will have to accelerate investments in sports and logistics infrastructure in order to convince the CAF.
