Pape Thiaw : « Pas de plan anti-Haaland ! »
On the eve of the clash against Norway, the second matchday of the World Cup, Pape Thiaw spoke about the threat posed by Erling Haaland. The Lions' coach acknowledged the exceptional qualities of the Norwegian striker, but refused to reduce his opponent to its star player alone.
“Haaland, it’s true, we no longer need to introduce him. He’s a great striker. But there will be no anti-Haaland plan, there will be an anti-Norway plan,” the Senegalese coach said at a press conference.
Confident in the potential of his back line, Pape Thiaw pointed out that Senegalese defenders possess the necessary experience to face this type of challenge.
"We have very high-level defenders who have played in very high-level competitions and who have already faced attackers of this caliber," he stressed.
While Haaland poses one of Norway's main threats, the coach emphasizes the importance of remaining focused on the entire opposing team. For him, the primary objective remains securing a positive result to revive Senegal's hopes in the competition.
“Our goal is to get the points. Of course, when you face a player as effective as Haaland, you have to be vigilant. But for us, the most important thing is Norway,” concluded Pape Thiaw.
