Polémique finale Can 2025: Augustin Senghor avertit sur le procédé de la CAF
Augustin Senghor's appearance on the "Talent d'Afrique" program, broadcast on Canal+ this Monday, revealed his total disagreement with the CAF's handling of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. Invited via video link, the former president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) revisited Senegal's controversial elimination, while also pointing the finger at certain institutional decisions.
In his analysis, Augustin Senghor sought to downplay the significance of the events leading to the Lions' elimination. According to him, if the referee had recorded a clear objection in his official report, the outcome would have been entirely different, potentially even resulting in the trophy not being awarded to Senegal.
Furthermore, the mayor of Gorée expressed his disagreement with what he perceives as the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) desire to make this case a cautionary tale. He believes that Senegal should not be sacrificed in a show of force.
From a legal standpoint, Senghor also emphasized a fundamental principle, reminding everyone that sports jurisdictions must not create law, lest they descend into arbitrariness. He reiterated that, in football, refereeing decisions are inherently unassailable, thus constituting a cornerstone of game regulation.
