Premier League: West Ham dépose une plainte contre la RD Congo à cause... des festivités de la qualification à la Coupe du monde 2026
According to The Athletic, West Ham have filed a complaint with FIFA after alleging that the Democratic Republic of Congo did not authorize the release of Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the FA Cup quarter-final against Leeds. Having qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974, the Congolese national team celebrated this achievement in their capital, where the player was present.
This is not going down well with West Ham. According to The Athletic, the English club has filed a complaint with FIFA regarding the Democratic Republic of Congo. The reason: the African national team allegedly failed to release Aaron Wan-Bissaka in time, resulting in the player's absence from the FA Cup quarter-final loss to Leeds United on Sunday (2-2, 2-4 on penalties).
The Hammers' right-back, called up by DR Congo, helped his country qualify for its first World Cup since 1974. The African nation won the intercontinental play-off final in Mexico against Jamaica in a nail-biting finish, thanks to a goal from Axel Tuanzebe in the 100th minute.
Having secured their place at the World Cup this summer, the team returned to Kinshasa, their capital, to celebrate their success on home soil.
An unused return flight
According to sources cited by the American media, the problem lies in these festivities, which Wan-Bissaka was not allowed to attend. West Ham wanted him back for the match against Leeds. A plane had even been arranged for the 28-year-old to travel to London, but he never showed up for boarding, leading to the complaint being filed.
A key player for the English club, Wan-Bissaka has made 22 Premier League appearances for West Ham this season. He returned to training with the club on Tuesday and is expected to start against Wolverhampton on Friday (9pm).
