Qualification Coupe du monde : Jeeps et primes, les Léopards célébrés par l’État congolais
By defeating Jamaica (1-0, after extra time) in the intercontinental playoff played on Tuesday night, DR Congo secured their place at the 2026 World Cup, their first qualification in 52 years. Upon their return from Mexico, despite a long and arduous journey, the Leopards were welcomed home as true heroes.
This Sunday, Cédric Bakambu and his teammates paraded through the streets of Kinshasa, which were filled with a dense and jubilant crowd, come to celebrate this historic achievement.
After the enthusiastic reception, the Congolese delegation was received at the presidential palace by Félix Tshisekedi. As a token of appreciation, the head of state announced exceptional rewards: each player and staff member will receive a Jeep, an undisclosed bonus, and a plot of land.
Sébastien Desabre's men weren't the only ones honored. Lumumba VEA, the famous supporter of the Leopards at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, was also recognized. Taking to the stage, he greeted the crowd with his iconic gesture, his right arm raised.
Unable to travel to Mexico due to visa issues, this fervent supporter hopes to fully experience the World Cup next summer. DR Congo will face Portugal in Group K and Uzbekistan in the United States, before taking on Colombia in Mexico.
