Qualifications Mondial Basket 2027 : Brancou Badio rejoint enfin la tanière des Lions
Senegal welcomes back its captain. Absent during the first game of the qualifying window for the 2027 Men's Basketball World Cup, which ended in a defeat against Ivory Coast (80-90), the captain of the Lions of Senegal, Oumar Brancou Badio, finally rejoined the group this Friday.
This arrival comes at a perfect time for national team coach DeSagana Diop, who is searching for solutions after the defeat against the Ivory Coast Elephants. The Senegalese point guard, who plays in the Valencia league, joined the squad after playing and winning his club match on Thursday.
Badio's absence was sorely felt during the Lions' first outing. After the match, the coach didn't hide his regret: "It's true that we missed Brancou because he's our best player, you know that," he said.
With the return of their captain and playmaker, Senegal now approaches their next match against Madagascar, scheduled for this Saturday, with greater confidence. The Lions hope to rely on the experience and impact of their leader to get back on track in these qualifiers and correct their initial setback.
