Quarts de finale Ligue des champions : Le PSG domine Liverpool, le Barça tombe à domicile
The final two first-leg quarter-final matches of the UEFA Champions League were played on Wednesday. Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain secured a home victory, defeating Liverpool 2-0.
Dominating the game, the Parisians opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Désiré Doué. In the second half, PSG doubled their lead with an individual effort from Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who dribbled past the Reds' defense before beating Giorgi Mamardashvili (65th minute).
With this clear victory, Ibrahim Mbaye's teammates, with Mbaye remaining on the bench, have taken a good option before the return match.
In the other all-Spanish encounter, Atlético de Madrid surprised FC Barcelona (2-0). Reduced to ten men following the expulsion of Pau Cubarsí (42nd minute), Barça were punished by a resilient and clinical Madrid side, who scored on their first opportunity through Julián Álvarez, whose free-kick deceived Joan García.
In the second half, the Catalans threw everything they had into the battle to equalize, but luck was not on their side. Worse still, in the 70th minute, substitute Alexander Sørloth doubled the lead with a perfect header from a Matteo Ruggeri cross.
This away win gives Atlético de Madrid a serious advantage in qualifying for the semi-finals.
