Racisme: si Prestianni est coupable "sa carrière avec moi s'arrête ici", lance Mourinho
"The presumption of innocence is a right. But I have to put a lot of 'ifs' before. (...) As a citizen, I reject all forms of prejudice or idiocy. If, and I repeat, if, my player has not respected these principles, which are mine and those of Benfica, his career with a coach named José Mourinho and at a club like Benfica is coming to an end," he said at a press conference.
Provisionally suspended by UEFA after being accused by Brazilian Vinicius Junior of calling him a "monkey" - which he denies - in the first leg, Prestianni did not play in the Champions League second leg which was won by Real Madrid (2-1).
This qualification, marked by another goal from Vinicius, was celebrated by French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni as a victory "against racism", also asserting that the suspension of the Argentinian was "the best decision to take".
For its part, Benfica reaffirmed on Thursday that its player was "not racist" and that he had apologized to his teammates.
Also suspended for the second leg, José Mourinho appeared to justify the incident after the match, stating that Vinicius Junior shouldn't have provoked the crowd with his celebration of the winning goal in the first leg. The Brazilian repeated the gesture on Wednesday by dancing at the corner flag, in response to the Portuguese coach's comments.
