Récompenses accordées aux Lions : Abdoulaye Wilane relativise l’impact des primes
Abdoulaye Wilane, spokesperson for the Socialist Party, expressed reservations about the bonuses and distinctions announced by the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, to reward the players of the national football team, winners of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations.
Invited to the "Grand Jury" program this Sunday, January 25, 2025, Mr. Wilane emphasized the limited nature of these rewards. "The exceptional bonuses announced, the land granted, the distinctions awarded, that's all well and good, but these are spectacular and one-off measures," he stated.
For Abdoulaye Wilane, the risk is reducing a historic triumph to an immediate financial response, without any structural extension.
"We must not make this a political victory," he warns, calling for a distinction between recognizing the players and long-term sports policy.
According to the socialist official, bonuses should not be the culmination of continental success. "The hardest part is not winning, it's maintaining what has been achieved," he reminds us, believing that the real work happens after the celebrations.
Furthermore, Georges Déthié Diop's guest particularly regrets "the absence of a sustainable policy for local sports infrastructure" and "the lack of a youth training strategy", two areas which, according to him, should have been at the heart of the benefits of the victory.
Thus, the former parliamentarian calls for a change of paradigm. "We need these emotional moments," he concedes, "but if we want to work for future generations, we must go beyond bonuses, land and decorations that we hang in living rooms," he says before adding that "this consecration can create a trigger," provided that the State transforms the immediate reward into a sustainable sports policy.
As a reminder, following the Lions' victory...
At the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations, the President of the Republic announced on Tuesday, January 20, 2025, that each player on the national team will receive a special bonus of 75 million CFA francs, along with the allocation of a plot of land of approximately 1,500 m² on the Petite Côte. Members of the Senegalese Football Federation, for their part, received a bonus of 50 million CFA francs and a 1,000 m² plot of land, while the other members of the official delegation were awarded a bonus of 20 million CFA francs and a 500 m² plot of land.
