Rio Ferdinand dirigera le tirage au sort de la Coupe du monde 2026, assisté par de grands noms du sport américain
The draw for the 2026 World Cup will be conducted by Rio Ferdinand. "As a player, this competition represented the ultimate achievement. Today, I am honored to continue to be involved, alongside such extraordinary personalities, to unveil the composition of the twelve groups that the whole world eagerly awaits," said the former England captain in a statement released by FIFA on Wednesday. He will be assisted by former US soccer player Samantha Johnson.
For this event, the Anglo-American duo will be assisted by several big names in American sport. In addition to Eli Manning, former quarterback of the New York Giants in the NFL and two-time Super Bowl winner who will be on the red carpet, there will be four of them to draw the names of the 48 selections qualified for the lottery, each assigned to a hat: Tom Brady, NFL legend, Wayne Gretzky, considered one of the greatest players in the history of the NHL, Aaron Judge, star of the New York Yankees and seven-time MLB All-Star, and Shaquille O'Neal, four-time NBA champion and member of the Hall of Fame.
The draw for the 2026 World Cup (June 11-July 19) will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. (French time) at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington. France will be in Pot 1.
