The President of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, expressed his great satisfaction following Senegal's triumph in the Africa Cup of Nations final. In an official message released on January 19, 2026, he emphasized the impact of this success beyond Senegal's borders.
“By winning the prestigious 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Lions of Teranga honor all the people of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) region,” declared President Diop. He added that he had followed this historic victory, achieved on January 18 in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, with “genuine pleasure.”
On behalf of all members and staff of the UEMOA bodies, Mr. Diop offered his "warmest congratulations" to the Senegalese national team for this performance which showcases integration and excellence within the West African zone.
