The long-awaited epilogue has finally arrived for the families of the Senegalese supporters. Detained in the Kingdom of Morocco, our compatriots were officially granted a royal pardon yesterday before immediately returning to Senegal. While this happy ending testifies to the excellent diplomatic relations between Dakar and Rabat, it also highlights the effectiveness of a particularly inspired behind-the-scenes effort: that of the Honorable Abdou Salam Guèye, president of the "SOS - Cheval" association (Senegalese League for the Protection of Horses).
In an official letter dated April 17, 2026, this former president of the Senegalese Equestrian Sports Federation (FSSE) took the initiative to activate the levers of parallel diplomacy by addressing Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem of Morocco directly. Aware that "the link between Senegal and the Kingdom of Morocco transcends traditional diplomatic relations to be rooted in a shared history and common passions," the Honorable Abdou Salam Guèye skillfully appealed to the enduring bonds of fraternity to advocate for the cause of young Senegalese.
His contribution proved valuable by leveraging relationships of very high esteem. In his letter, he recalled, in particular, "the sincere friendship that bound me to Her Highness the late Princess Lala Amina (may God forgive her and have mercy on her), born from a shared passion for horses and equestrian sports." It was in the name of this shared emotional history, the "deeply connected relationship between the holy city of Fez and Senegal," and the voice of all those passionate about the equestrian world that he formalized his request for intercession. "Allow me, Your Highness, to request your intercession with His Royal Highness, the Commander, your blood, Commander of the Faithful, for a royal pardon granted to our children," he wrote respectfully.
